Clough opens 3G pitch

by Mark Rowe

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough was full of praise when he attended the opening of a new 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) ahead of the Brewers’ debut in the Sky Bet Championship.

And the fates have conspired that Nigel’s Albion kick off for their historic first match in the second tier of English football against his father’s former club Nottingham Forest (the team that he used to pay for), in Saturday’s season opener at The City Ground. Nigel CLough is pictured second from left next to Albion chairman Ben Robinson.

Anglesey Primary School, which has links with the Burton Albion Community Trust, received a £140,000 grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund for the new AGP that will be used by pupils and the wider community. The Trust will do its community work at weekends and on midweek evenings, while the AGP will also be used by local Charter Standard clubs Branston FC and Anglesey Swifts for training and mini-soccer fixtures.

The new facilities were installed by Dawn Fencing Limited of Leigh, which has been in business for more than 30 years and is the only fencing contractor dedicated solely to sports. The firm installed the fencing on the other three sides. The company chose 4m-high Duo8 SuperRebound twin horizontal wire fencing panels from Zaun, which are described as durable, low maintenance, ‘graffiti-proof’ and offering rebound properties similar to a wall.
