Accolade for Head of Learning

by Mark Rowe

Securitas UK’s Head of Learning & Development, Emily O’Mahony, has won a BSIA Chairman’s Award for 2016. The annual awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a contribution to training, community, export, the industry or standards. They are presented at the BSIA Annual Luncheon, this year at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Tuesday, July 12.

Since joining Securitas UK in November 2014, Emily has led the business on the training and development of its 13,000 officers, leading in turn to measurable improvements in skills and output, the firm says. The company’s Training & Development Academy, opened last year, is within the company’s new Operations Centre in Milton Keynes.

Securitas report that Emily has been instrumental in developing this and building a learning and development culture across the group. What the contract firm calls a competency-based learning approach has resulted in an emphasis on performance development rather than performance management, with each member of the workforce understanding their respective contribution to the business. She has also introduced detailed training for the company’s managers, for strategic, commercial and leadership skills.

Securitas UK has been appointed a City & Guilds Accredited Training Centre and has created City & Guilds-accredited Protective Services Officer training.

Announcing the awards, BSIA Chairman Dirk Wilson said: “I am proud to be able to recognise these individuals whose commitment and dedication has made a lasting impression on our industry, both in the UK and abroad. The actions of this year’s winners have all served to promote our industry in a positive light and I am delighted to be able to commend the impact they have made.”
