Website hacking day

by msecadm4921

Web developers from around Leicester and the East Midlands will be converging on the University of Leicester on Tuesday, June 12, to hack into a website.  Passwords will be stolen, content will be defaced and personal details downloaded. The website is set up solely for this purpose, with the University of Leicester, to educate developers in keeping their websites safe.

The university has arranged the free web security workshop with the help of local Web development company, Xibis, as part of their engagement with local industry. The university’s Head of Computer Science, Thomas Erlebach, said “Keeping websites safe from the attention of hackers is becoming increasingly important. There is more personal information stored on websites than ever before and hacking is frequently organised by criminal gangs. Understanding how hackers gain entry will help you make sure your web applications are secure.”

Simon Perry, owner of Xibis, said: “This workshop will be a hands-on session where we expose how hackers break into websites and what you can do to stop them. Our aim is to educate the industry to ensure they are up to speed with the latest techniques.” If you work in the web industry and would like to come along, or if you want to find out more go to: http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/computer-science/news/web-security-workshop
