Aberdeen Scans

by msecadm4921

Some 345 people were scanned by mobile metal detectors during Operation Shield at Aberdeen railway station on Friday, November 28.

No offensive weapons were recovered although officers from British Transport Police and Grampian Police seized almost 100 litres of alcohol from underage youths.

Sergeant Jim Wands of British Transport Police in Scotland, said: "The operation once again proved an extremely worthwhile exercise and was well received by staff and members of the public."

During the joint operation officers used portable walk through archway metal detectors, similar to those used at airports, plus hand held devices with passengers being encouraged to walk through the metal detectors.

Operation Shield is the British Transport Police national campaign to deter knife crime on the rail network and the metal detectors can be deployed anywhere in the country.
