by Mark Rowe

Former police detective David Kearns set up Expert Investigations Ltd, a commercial detective investigation agency, in a spare bedroom at home. Fifteen years later, with a nationwide capability and a head office in Coventry, Regional Offices in Birmingham, Leeds, London and in 2016 Bristol, the company has been nominated for the Award of ‘Small Business of the Year (Midlands Region) by the Institute of Directors.

The firm does commercial investigations for the legal sector, housing associations and the whole of the commercial business sector. It deploys surveillance teams, computer data retrieval forensics, interview and investigation officers, as well as installing covert cameras.

David Kearns, pictured, Managing Director of Expert Investigations says: “To be nominated for this award is an immense achievement and I am very proud of my team who deal with clients’ on a daily basis and conduct lawful investigations with outstanding results. This is a recognition for them as well as the name of the company.”

John Phillips, Regional Director of the IOD says: “I have known that David and his team have work tirelessly year after year to give employers and businesses an alternative for investigations in the workplace.”

Expert’s Leeds office was opened in November 2013. Having consolidated at the onset of the recession, by 2010 Kearns adopted an approach based on increased marketing, advertising and PR with a re-branding and infusion of young energetic employees. Kearns says “We have a very firm foundation on which to launch our plans for the next five years which will involve some exciting expansion plans.”
