SfS training centre

by Mark Rowe

The private security sector’s skills body, Skills for Security, has opened a new training centre in Knutsford, Cheshire, bringing its security apprenticeships to the north west for the first time.

SfS says the new centre provides training on Skills for Security’s apprenticeships, as well as space to provide bespoke and specialist courses to the security sector.

Skills for Security’s chief executive Peter Sherry, pictured, says: “The key trade apprenticeship for the security industry is the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems apprenticeship. But we’re keen to encourage security firms to boost their skills in other areas, so they can deliver a great experience across the board. For this reason, our new Knutsford training centre also delivers apprenticeships in team leadership and customer services – helping security organisations raise their people’s skills levels throughout the organisation, not just at the point of service delivery.”

An important part of Skills’s role is to encourage people to forge a career in the security sector, Peter adds. “The UK’s security sector is worth around £6 billion, employing over half a million people. It’s a sector with well above average growth – around 17pc last year. It’s a brilliant industry in which to start a new career – and we’re here to help.”

The centre is already providing training to new apprentices.
