Roy's Monthly Gossip

Happy Valentine’s day (not you Nigel): February 2016

by Mark Rowe

Don’t forget to buy your loved ones that bunch of flowers; see what I do for you, always try to keep you in the good books, no excuse to forget now!

Right so seems January, which is usually a very quiet month, has been a little busy with a few key people changing jobs; who? Let’s start with some glamour as Julie Joiner has joined HIKVISION as business development manager for the UK and Ireland. Julie you may recall was over at 360 Vision where she spent seven years. Now I have access to a number of pictures of Julie as we are connected via Facebook but here is one of her off her Linkedin profile. Also HIKVISION have not stopped there; seems they have also taken on Andrew Howes, in Scotland!

Dean Brazenall – your surname spelt the right way this time Dean! why do I mention that well because last time Dean featured in my gossip I spelt his name wrong but that was four years ago now. Yes, Dean was at Avigilon for four years. It seems he has left and joined IndigoVision as the Sales Director for the Northern EMEA region. Yes we are talking of the same Dean that was at Bosch, Samsung and GE for some time in the early 2000s. Good luck Dean.

I met up with Mark Massie (now as you know over at distributor ADI Global) the other day and he told me that he had just taken on Rob Bullen to do a BDM (business development manager) role. Now Rob worked with me at Imigix some years ago, when that company went pop he joined Basson as their sales director. I seem to have lost touch with him since but I can tell you that when Rob and I worked together I once went to his house; it was in the summer and he still had in his bay window a Christmas tree, fully decorated. I asked him why and apparently he leaves it up all the year, in fact he told me the difference between Christmas and the rest of the year is that at Christmas time he puts the fairy lights on! I also recall him telling me that for a present once for one of his mates he cooked him a bacon and egg sandwich which he wrapped up. That sounds ok, except he cooked the sandwich a week or so before he gave the gift! So if he offers you a present, best to turn it down.

Nigel Austin, pictured, has joined Norbain as key account manager; I don’t think that means he looks after the office keys?! Do you know that Nigel first started in the industry in 1988; he was with an installer back then, namely SSG the MoD people, he worked at ADT but moved to the other side, manufacturing that is, and was with Sanyo (remember them?), Samsung and more recently Dahua!

ISD Tech have taken on Graeme Currie as Technical Account Engineer; Gary Sturge as Site Manager; and Sarah Stanton as Project Engineer. Graeme brings experience in IP and networked fire and security systems acquired over almost 20 years in senior posts at TYCO and ADT Fire and Security. Gary Sturge spent 23 years in the Parachute Regiment, where his responsibilities included running military medical centres in extreme conditions ranging from the Arctic to desert, jungle and urban conflict zones. Sarah Stanton joins from Gratte Brothers Security Management, where, as a security project engineer, she supervised CCTV, access control, visitor and traffic management and intruder alarm installations to a NACOSS Gold Standard.

EzCCTV has appointed Andy Mason as northern area sales manager. Andy joins from DeView Europe. He has experience as a dedicated account manager having spent five years at ADI Global. Likewise Tess Kelly becomes Sales Account Manager. Tess joins their internal sales team. Tess joins from ADI where she spent over ten years as a branch manager, most recently at Kingsbury. Tess will focus on customer service. Sean Fox has been appointed to Area Sales Manager (London and South East). He was a Key Account Manager at EzCCTV and now joins the growing external sales division.

The power of Facebook, finally. For those of you that are connected to me through Facebook will know that recently some person (for want of a better word) tried to break into my car at 2.20am on a Saturday just before Christmas. He was unsucessful but managed to get into a neighbour’s car and stole their wife’s handbag! I had just installed a couple of cameras as you would expect and managed to capture the suspect. I posted his image on Facebook and within a couple of days someone recognised him! So yep he has had his just rewards and the property was returned to its respective owner. Love it when a plan comes together.

I look forward to seeing you all in Nottingham at our next ST event which just keeps growing. ST16 Nottingham has some 70 exhibitors and a fantastic line up of speakers, not mention the new casino night, that we have added on after the charity dinner. If you’ve not registered, you had better hurry up.
