The Security Industry Authority (SIA) ran its annual conference in London on October 16, with an international flavour. You can visit the SIA website to read the speeches by the regulator’s Chair, Elizabeth France CBE; Ana Osbourne from the Enterprise Directorate of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS); Jean-Yves Latournerie, Director of France’s National Council for Private Security Regulation, on that organisation’s regulation of the security sector in France; Ian Thomas from Police Scotland, who reviewed private security deployment during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow; and John Ryan, Chief Executive of the Private Security Authority, the Republic of Ireland’s equivalent of the SIA.
Other speakers were Andy Archibald, Deputy Director of NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU), Labour spokesman on private security Baroness Angela Smith, and Jeferson Furlan Nazario, President of the Brazilian Federation of Security and Cash in Transit Industries (FENAVIST) on private security regulation in Brazil.
