Theft in the transport industry is a growing concern; and losses result not only in reduced profits, disrupted supply chains, increased insurance but unhappy customers.
So say organisers of the Air & Port Security conference and exhibition in Brussels on June 22 and 23.
Biometrics, scanning and tackling theft in transport are among topics at the conference. Francis Weiss of biometrics manufacturers Sagem will report on recent immigration control and staff ID control programmes. Invited speakers include John Stewardson, Head of Asset Protection, British Airways (interviewed by Una Riley in our February 2002 issue); Bill Coughtrie, Aviation Security Advisor, FedEx; and Kevin Anthony Gorringe, Crime Prevention Officer, Gatwick Airport.
Organisers add that when the US Government’s 9/11 Commission published its report on the terrorist attacks on the United States on 11 September 2001, one of its most important messages was that US government agencies responsible for homeland security had to improve their ‘information sharing’ capabilities. One segment of the conference will look at how information gathered from a range of technologies – RFID, GPS, inventory and fleet control systems – could be pooled.
