TDSi launched a new version of its access control system with an intruder alarm integration capability at IFSEC 2004.
The new scalable access control system offers integration with a building’s intruder alarm system, using an enhanced version of TDSi’s intelligent eXguard software. The solution enables organisations to improve security, minimise the potential for false alarms, reduce cost and improve administration processes, the makers say.

Co-operation between the access control and intruder alarm systems allows confirmation of a building’s occupancy status before the alarm is set. If the access control system believes that the building is not empty the intruder alarm will warn the operator trying to set it. This ensures the prevention of one of the commonest causes of false alarm incidences. Similarly, when the alarm is set, the access control system puts additional restrictions in place and will allow only authorised personnel, capable of disarming the alarm, into the building. As well as minimising false alarm incidences, this reduces cost by removing the need to fit a separate mechanical lock and key to achieve the same result.

For better security, the access control system can be set up to trigger the alarm in the event of an ‘entry bypass’, if a door is forced open for example. When the alarm is set, a legitimate entrant has the normal entry-delay time to key in the appropriate code and disarm the system. If the door is forced, the alarm is triggered immediately.

Simon Holt, Marketing Manager, TDSi comments: ‘TDSi solutions offer our customers a scalable platform which they can build upon over time to maximise access control security whatever the organisations size and budget. Our new access control system with intruder alarm integration capability adds a powerful level of intelligence and cooperation between the two systems that will reduce organisations false alarm incidences and the wasted time, resource and money which come as a consequence.’
