Bomb Awareness

by msecadm4921

Bomb threats are the subject of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Awareness Day on November 4, organised by RUSI in London.

The Royal United Services Institute says that the ‘nightmare scenario’ of weapons of mass destruction in terrorist hands has received much attention since 9/11, but RUSI suggests the most immediate danger is that posed by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Bobmings in Bali, Istanbul, Madrid, London and elsewhere have shown the relative ease of production, versatility and high impact of IEDs, the institute continues. The insurgency in Iraq meanwhile, has seen the development of more sophisticated devices and methods of attack: new expertise which may well find its way into wider terrorist networks.

Assuming no prior knowledge, RUSI adds that its IED Awareness Day will give participants an overview of the threat from IEDs and the kind of mitigation strategies that can be undertaken. Aimed at business continuity professionals, security managers and those responsible for personnel safety, it aims to provide a foundational understanding of the threat from bombs, and a practical basis from which to plan for protection and mitigation. Confirmed speakers include representatives from the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorism Branch (SO13); private security consultants AKE Group; and Hazard Management Solutions. For booking information ring Sabrina Downey on 020 747 2622 or Emma Penn.
