DVD Tool

by msecadm4921

Security and surveillance services company, Scyron announced a strategic partnership with Ovation, the UK supplier of covert video surveillance equipment and video encryption systems.

Marking the partnership for video surveillance and analysis is the launch of DVD Explorer software upgrade developed by Scyron for viewing of footage from Ovation’s AfterBurner, a time-lapse video DVD recorder for police surveillance.

The upgrade allows fast search, review and better control of footage and enables DVDs to be used with multiple IT platforms such as Microsoft Windows Visa for the first time, the firms say. This is important for the use of different formats of evidence in support of convictions.

Also, included is a trial version of Scyron’s DEMON analyse software for analysis of footage, allowing users to set detection parameters for suspicious incidents such as an event or activity occurring in a specific place on screen.

Following over 100 man days of research and development at Scyron’s Laboratory in Birmingham, the first result of the partnership is the DVD Explorer Upgrade software. The replacement provides frame-accurate viewing of footage. It allows fast search, review and better control of footage compared to a typical DVD player. Also, it enables DVDs to be used with multiple IT platforms for the first time. These include Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 2000, in addition to Windows XP, allowing users greater flexibility and interoperability. This is important for the use of different formats of evidence in support of convictions.

What they say

David Millar, sales and marketing director of Ovation said: “The strategic partnership is great news for both companies and most importantly, it’s a powerful combination for our customers. Police forces are under ever increasing pressure to get evidence for convictions – so using intelligent, surveillance technology to do this while drastically reducing police time and costs can only be a good thing.”

Also, featured in the Upgrade is a trial version of DEMON analyse. The software allows analysis of footage, allowing users to set detection parameters for suspicious incidents such as an event or activity occurring in a specific place on screen. This is in contrast to blanket monitoring ie. painstakingly having to watch all surveillance which is costly in terms of man hours.

The Greater Manchester police force is using DEMON analyse with AfterBurner to provide intelligent, surveillance and analysis. On average, the full version of DEMON analyse can reduce the cost and time it takes to manually review surveillance footage by more than 90pc.

Brendan Greally, intelligence research and development officer at Greater Manchester Police said: “The volume of surveillance footage that can be obtained during observations can be vast. We are using DEMON analyse to overcome this hurdle and provide alerts only to suspicious incidents. We have found that using this software greatly reduces the time spent by officers in reviewing footage thus enabling them to free up time to progress other lines of enquiry.”
