Exhibits In Nottingham

by msecadm4921

A report on distributor Gardiner Security?s recent exhibition in Nottingham.

Among the exhibitors were Dedicated Micros, with their Digital Sprite range of DVR/multiplexers. Linking to nine or 16 cameras with up to 360Gb drive and networkable, it will e-mail you on alarm status. DM were also discussing their new Digital P4, also full duplex but aimed at the retail, market, whose innovations include an duplex audio channel. DM?s Nick Platt-Higgins says: ?The show was phenomenally successful, the best of its kind yet, well organised and in a good location in Nottingham. A good hard day all round, good for networking and we did some good business too, with Gardiner taking immediate orders for a number of Sprites.? Meanwhile, Philips CSI were nearby finding equal interest in their REO (retail observation) system, launched the same month as a new ?all in one? integrated CCTV security solution for retail applications. For cost effective night and day surveillance by small to medium sized retail businesses, this is a stylish fully integrated CCTV system with up to four or eight colour cameras ? to cover entrances, tills, changing areas, high value goods, rear delivery doors and general shop coverage – and boasting features to improve retail security management. According to Philips? Clare Svennson, these include selectable motion detection to protect vulnerable areas, night/day switching that allows different alarm/motion settings when the premises are unmanned, alarm and event handling, intercom and remote door access control, and remote access via the internet. REO provides full alarm and event handling with instant replay of pre- and post-alarm events. For round the clock security, different motion/alarm profiles can be set for day or night operation at the touch of a button. At night or when unmanned, all cameras can be set to motion detection to provide full security and recording for the premises. The Nottingham event brought the region?s installers up to date on not just the latest security products ? including those of Stortech Electronics, CDV, Urmet Domus, ACT and KFV ? but also set them thinking on the legality of every new CCTV system they may install. Although there has been no shortage of publicity about it, the 1998 Data Protection Act has to be faced up to by installers and operators of commercial or public CCTV systems. As Brian Larkins of Video Management Systems, another expert at the Gardiner Security show, says: ?It is now law to register every non-domestic installation with the Data Protection Office ? and there is no option about it. It costs just œ35 to register and then œ35 a year to be licensed. Yet the vast majority of operators have yet to comply and are almost certainly breaking the law. Not only must every area in which a system operates be clearly signposted, stating who is responsible and where they can be contacted, but any individuals recorded by CCTV has the right of access to their appearance on it.? VMS provide a full compliance management service that includes initial site survey, supply of equipment, signage, stationery, tape media, secure editing, training, routine compliance and recording performance audit, secure collection and disposal of recording media and associated records, management of right of subject access requests and help desk support. An off the shelf package is available through Gardiner Security.
