Perimeter protection firm Advanced Perimeter Systems (APS) has been short-listed for Exporter of the Year, as part of the Security Industry Export Awards 2004.
The news follows APS’ achievement in the past four years of raising its share of export-related sales to 47pc of overall sales in 2003/4 (from nine per cent of turnover, the firm says). The company designs and manufactures a range of electronic and electric perimeter security systems, including the IFSEC 2003 Security Industry Award-winning Flexiguard Closed Loop System. APS equipment is now in use worldwide, in regions ranging from Europe and South America to Africa and the Far East.

Graeme Howes, the firm’s Sales and Marketing Director, has spearheaded this dramatic overseas sales growth: "We’re delighted by the recognition we’re receiving, but plan to push ahead with fresh initiatives. For instance, by building on recent success in Latvia as a springboard for expansion of our presence across all the Baltic states. We also have similar plans in place for Thailand and Hong Kong." APS recently hosted a visit to its headquarters by HRH the Duke of York. Prince Andrew arrived at the company’s premises in Stirling, Scotland, to meet managers and staff and review the operation of equipment. The Duke is Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. The visit followed the appointment of Graeme Howes as Chairman of the BSIA Export Council.
