Golf IP

Telindus, a network integration specialist, has installed a centralised LAN, VoIP, WiFi and IPTV network for the Killeen Castle Hotel and Golf Resort, a development in the grounds of a 12th century Norman castle.

The new network will let Killeen’s elite residents book golf tee times, order caterers, tailor their TV channels to their personal tastes and view visitors before granting access to the complex.

Following the castle’s restoration, the 600 acre Killeen Castle Estate, which is home to the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and the only Dave Pelz scoring game school outside of the US, is currently undergoing development to incorporate a luxury hotel and spa. The resort will include 162 terraced and detached luxury houses, offering residents privacy and security as well as a 24 hour concierge.

Killeen Castle sought a network that could integrate the existing CCTV and access control with technologies such as VoIP and IPTV. Having been awarded the 2011 Solheim Cup, the project also has to meet deadlines.

Following a tender, Killeen Castle chose Telindus. The company designed and fitted a LAN infrastructure, based on Cisco technology, to support IPTV, VoIP and WiFi in the golf club house and each of the hotel’s rooms. WiFi hotspots in designated areas across the estate will also provide hotel guests with Internet access and staff with secure access to the business data network.

Connected to the core network via Gigabit Ethernet links, each house on the estate will have business-grade broadband and an IP Telephony (IPT) system, which can also be used to control heating, lighting and sound throughout the house as well as acting as an access control point by streaming camera feeds from the gate. The IPTV service also enables a package to be tailored to the tastes of each resident.

Ernie Mooney, Residential Sales and Marketing Director, Killeen Castle, said: “At Killeen Castle, we consider ourselves synonymous with quality and we pride ourselves on offering our clients a five star experience, whether in the hotel, their home or on the grounds. When buying a home at Killeen Castle, clients are buying into a lifestyle and so every detail is critical. Telindus offered us a package that not only met our technical and service delivery requirements, but also our aesthetic requirements as the IPTV offering only required two satellite dishes for the entire estate. For a project such as Killeen Castle, early engagement with technology partners is essential as it ensures that the right solutions can be integrated into buildings from the outset. By designing a network that could be utilised across the residential units, golf club and hotel, Telindus has also eliminated the duplication of both effort and infrastructure, thereby reducing the cost of providing these services. The future proof network has given us complete flexibility as it can develop with the resort.”

Darragh Richardson, Country Manager, Telindus Ireland, said: “Killeen Castle’s new IP infrastructure is a great example of how existing and new technology can be blended to create a ground-breaking system. The new deployment will help to provide residents with a world-class service experience and ensure that Killeen Castle maintains its reputation as a provider of one of the finest lifestyle experiences in the world”.

Phase one of the roll-out, which includes services for the golf club house and seven show homes, has been completed and development is set to continue.

In January 2006, Telindus joined the Belgacom Group to become its IT Services Branch. Telindus is headquartered in Belgium.
