The Notebook Guardian ComboLock is the newest member of PC Guardian?s Notebook Guardian family of laptop anti-theft devices. The product is a combination-locking laptop anti-theft device on the market that will withstand attempts to remove the security cable by twisting the locking head or grinding it out of the computer?s security slot, the manufacturers say. The reason: the lock design, based on PC Guardian?s patented stainless steel locking arm and bridge, cased in a stainless steel lock body that allows the lock head to independently rotate 360 degrees. In addition, this combination lock includes such features as chrome-plated metal lock face, security bumper, and six-foot multi-strand galvanised steel cable sheathed with black polyvinyl. This new one-piece notebook security cable offers, the makers say, ease of use (a thumb-activated lock trigger simplifies how users insert and secure the patented locking head to the computer?s security slot); a re-settable combination (although the user can reset the lock?s combination only when the device is in the unlocked position. This feature ensures security because the user must have knowledge of the previously used combination in order to change it. Also, from a corporate standpoint, its makes the lock ?reusable? in the event an employee quits and the computer and lock are reissued to another employee. The combination is very difficult to ?guess?. This combination lock uses four dials, each with 10 digits (0 to 9), making the total number of possible combinations 10,000. That is significantly more difficult to guess than a lock with only three dials.
