Guarding contractor Carlisle Security reports that it has been taking responsibilities with regard to social responsibility seriously in 2007.
On Merseyside they have engaged officers in the "Your Choice" conferences to educate local children about the health and safety risks on playing on or near live railway tracks. Officers explained to children about the enforcement and security side of the rail network by showing them the CCTV in cars and headcams that they use to detect offenders.
The guard firm has with Merseyrail raised £5000 for the charity Sundown’s (which looks after local children with Downs Syndrome) and sponsored a schools poster prize which seeks to raise awareness of the impact of anti social behaviour on others and the community.
Security supervisor Tony Fearon was also given support to help his 2nd Fairfield Scout Group to go on a camping trip to Belgium. Carlisle has also been involved to raise money for the Kim Trinder Bywater foundation in Newcastle and the Samaritans Purse in Belfast during the Belfast marathon.
Martin Woollam, Operations Director at the guarding firm, says: "I think it is a real step forward for ACS companies to be accountable for how their business impacts upon local stakeholders. Events like the Merseyrail "Your Choice" campaign helps to educate the next generation about the impact of anti-social behaviour and their own health and safety. You can genuinely see it making the children think differently about local issues and potentially life-threatening ones too. Carlisle is proud to be associated with these types of events as well as the income generation side of social responsibility."
