Random Search

by msecadm4921

Search Techniques, a random search product firm, has launched a new version of its SELEKTOR random search generator for use in retail, warehouses and factories.

SELEKTOR II is a pre-programmable push button unit intended for installation at employee exit points and will select at random members of the workforce to be searched by site security. The desk or wall mounted unit has built- in search and pass counters and input for external trigger signal such as access control card reader, turnstile rotation contacts, infra-red beam and CCTV triggers.

Derek Cozens, Managing Director of Search Techniques Ltd, says: “SELEKTOR II is the result of feedback from customers and part of an expansion of our portfolio to meet a surge in demand over the last 12 months. From what our customers are telling us, the recession has caused a spike in employee theft and the issues around discriminatory search processes is causing a major headache for organisations of all types.”

The product can negate common problems with manual search selection such as charges of victimisation, sexism, racism or stereotyping. “Few organisations have the resources or desire to search every single employee, every time they enter or exit a building,” explains Cozens, “The introduction of SELEKTOR acts as both a practical solution and a major psychological barrier against employees engaging in theft as the risk of capture is much higher.”

Search Techniques adds that it has supplied its SELEKTOR range of products to eight out of 10 of the UK’s largest retail chains, three out of five of the UK largest distribution and logistics firms plus cash handling companies, jewellery manufacturers and precious metals mines and refineries. “We also provide advice to organisations on best practice and on the tools available to build random search into an overall security procedure, “Cozens adds, “In many cases, SELEKTOR is welcomed by site security staff as it stops them from being the ‘bad guy’ as the machine has initiated the search instead of them having to make an arbitrary and often uncomfortable decision.” The entire SELEKTOR range is available from Search Techniques or through a range of authorised stockist including Regton, A2T and Insight Security.
