Reel Reuse

by msecadm4921

ADI Global Distribution (UK) and Ventcroft Ltd, the UK manufacturer of cable and electronic products for the fire and security market, have joined forces to help customers reduce waste and improve environmental compliance by enabling them to return the plastic reels used for the supply of Ventcroft fire cables.

Customers who may otherwise be charged for the disposal of waste building material can arrange for the reels, which are made from recycled material where possible and manufactured using environmentally friendly processes, to be collected by Ventcroft. Each reel returned to the company will be reused to distribute its BS5839 compliant fire cable to installers and contractors.

The company will not only arrange to collect reels for free, Ventcroft will also pay £50 for each pallet of reels returned.

"The UK uses over five million tonnes of plastic each year and currently recycles or recovers approximately 19pc of all plastic consumed ," said Jim Malone, Sales Director at Ventcroft. "We have a duty to the planet to ensure that we consider our actions now and in the future. By offering this service, we will also be able to offer our customers considerable cost savings through efficient waste management – it really is a win/win situation."

"The UK is governed by strict regulations regarding waste disposal which can make complying with legal requirements costly and time-consuming," said Peter Holmes, Fire Product Manager at ADI Global Distribution. "Businesses, such as Ventcroft, are recognising the important role they have to play in helping the UK to achieve more sustainable patterns of production and consumption. We will be encouraging all our customers to participate in the scheme."
