The Retail Loss Prevention Europe 2007 conference runs in central London in October.

With two months to go before the third annual Retail Loss Prevention Europe conference (October 10 and 11 in London), organisers are reminding retail security people that Friday, August 10 is the cut-off date to get large discounts on registration to attend.

Organisers eyeforretail report that besides are planned pre-conference workshops – by Syed Raza, director of loss prevention, Europe and Asia, at Polo Ralph Lauren, covering non-confrontational interviewing techniques; data mining to prevent loss, by Simon Grant and Phil Payne of IntelliQ; and Walter Palmer, of PCG Solutions on getting senior executives and the board onside in the fight against loss.<br><br>Speakers at the conference proper include Peter Kaye, head of business protection and continuity at John Lewis Partnership; Ralph Abbott, head of audit and loss prevention, Monsoon; Alan Ledbrook, national loss prevention manager, Lloydspharmacy; Ian Paton, head of security at Focus DIY; Lee Gamble, European loss prevention manager at Disney Stores Ltd; Colin Culleton, head of risk and loss prevention at HMV UK and Ireland; consultant Laurence King of The Oris Group; and Aristotle Ginarte, director, loss prevention, at Abercrombie and Fitch.<br><br>As the conference title suggests, there is an international feel to the event, with speakers from overseas including Brett Morrison, senior manager, global safeguards, at Wal-Mart International; Robert Rice, director, loss prevention international at Office Depot; and Deepak Selvaratnam, compliance – commercial loss manager at The Warehouse Limited, on that chain’s work in New Zealand. <br><br>Also planned: a benchmarking session by Adrian Beck of the University of Leicester; and after day one a drinks reception and a boat trip on the Thames, to offr more chances to network. <br><br>A session will cover video analytics, on how it can enable retailers to extend the capabilities of CCTV beyond security, deterring theft at the point of sale; and helping with merchandising.
