We have received a series of enquiries relating to an email sent from HMRC. The email concerns either completing the Self Assessment (before the deadline) or Recalculation of Tax Refunds.
We have spoken to the Customs, Excise and VAT Fraud Reporting Centre and can now clarify that this is a scam. HMRC have been inundated with calls of this nature over the last 5 days and suggest the problem is only going to get worse. We advise everyone to keep on the look out.
If you do receive an email of this nature we have been advised that you should forward it to [email protected] to enable HMRC to close down the sites and prosecute those behind the scam.
