Apprenticeships briefings

by Mark Rowe

The BSIA is running free-to-attend breakfast briefings to inform employers in the security and fire sectors ahead of important changes to the way apprenticeships are funded in England and Wales.

The first briefing in Birmingham on December 7 is jointly hosted by the British Security Industry Association and Skills for Security, the industryโ€™s sector skills body. The venue from 8am to 10am is The Holiday Inn, Birmingham M6 Jct 7, Chapel Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham, B43 7BG

Two further briefings are planned for early January 2017, in London and northern England.

Peter Sherry, Interim Director General at Skills for Security, says: โ€œAt the end of 2016, the Governmentโ€™s funding framework for apprenticeships is due to change, with the introduction of a new โ€˜trailblazerโ€™ operating model and apprenticeship levy. With many employers within the security and fire sectors set to be affected by these changes, the BSIA and Skills for Security wanted to provide valuable advice to help them understand how these changes will affect their business.โ€

Other speakers include David Wilkinson, Director of Technical Services at the BSIA; and Simon Banks, Group Managing Director at CSL Dualcom and founder of the Apprentices for Fire and Security scheme, which has placed more than 3000 young apprentices into careers since 2011.

Topics include the apprenticeship levy, an explanation of whatโ€™s changing, how the BSIA and Skills for Security can help employers adapt to these changes, and the value of apprenticeships and the benefits for business. Registration is online via this link: http://bit.ly/2eJ51cG.

A full programme can be downloaded from the BSIAโ€™s website: http://www.bsia.co.uk/events.
