Headset for Farnborough launch

by Mark Rowe

Esterline Corporation, a defence and security product manufacturer, is premiering its Racal Acoustics ELITE headset at the Home Office Security and Policing event in Farnborough, from March 8 to 10, 2016. This is the European debut of ELITE at a security exhibition.

The ELITE headset is aimed at the police, security and emergency services sectors, combining hearing protection, local area awareness, and secure communications in one unit. It is claimed to be the first commercially-available headset developed to meet defence and security specifications.

Designed in the UK and tested by two UK and other overseas police forces, the headset enables the user to hear two radio systems at once. It is described as ruggedised to function in the most severe conditions, including heat, cold, wet or dust.

Rob Harrison, Racal Acoustics product manager, says: “The feedback Racal has already received about the effectiveness of ELITE following extensive international trials has highlighted the headset’s unique offering to the security sector. No other product available on the market today delivers the triple benefits of robust hearing protection and secure communications, while still providing the user with clear awareness of their surroundings, which is critical for decision-making in complex and dynamic situations.”

Through its acquisition of Racal Acoustics in 2009, Esterline says that it has acquired a pedigree of supplying Racal equipment to 24 UK security and police services, including the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, Metropolitan and Essex forces. Visit www.esterline.com.
