PTZ network camera

by Mark Rowe

New in Hikvision’s DarkFighter range of low-light cameras is the DS-2DF8223I-AEL PTZ network camera. It uses the Chinese company’s low-light megapixel lens and is designed to capture colour and monochrome images in extreme, low-light conditions, the makers say.

The DS-2DF8223I-AEL DarkFighter PTZ offers EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation), 120dB WDR (wide dynamic range) and smart detection. At the recent IFSEC Security & Fire Excellence Awards the new DarkFighter PTZ was nominated as a finalist in the “CCTV Camera Equipment of the Year” category.

Low-light spec

The camera features a large, two-megapixel, 1/1.9 inch progressive scan CMOS image sensor for capturing full color images down to 0.002 Lux and black and white to 0.0002 Lux. Together with a 120 dB WDR (wide dynamic range) and Hikvision’s 3D DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) technology, the camera can stream full HD (high definition) 1920 x 1080 video at full frame rate. Infra-red (IR) distance of up to 200m ensures image capture in the dark, the makers add.

Features
The camera offers a range of ‘smart detection’ features, including face, intrusion and line crossing detection and audio exception. A smart tracking feature enables the camera to detect any progressively moving object and follow it within the camera’s area of coverage. Smart Defog and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) are further supported to improve image quality in challenging conditions.

The PTZ comes with a 23x optical zoom lens, which zooms from wide open to fully zoomed in less than five seconds. This high-power lens is capable of rotating endlessly through a full 360 degrees and tilting from minus 20 to 90 degrees. The product offers infrared capability over a range of 200m. Up to 300 pre-set positions can be programmed and the new camera also enables up to 32 pre-sets in up to eight patrols. The DarkFighter PTZ will also scan up to four patterns and supports up to 24 ROI [region of interest] areas.

The DS-2DF8223I-AEL DarkFighter PTZ is the latest member of the DarkFighter family. It is protected by an integrated heater in the IP66 and vandal-proof housing, making it suitable the makers say for use outdoors day and night in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees C. High-PoE and 24VAC power supply are supported as well.

Hikvision is introducting another DarkFighter PTZ, the DS-2DF6223-AEL 2MP network camera. This shares all the functions of the DS-2DF8223I-AEL except for infra-red IR.
