Cloudview non-exec

by Mark Rowe

The cloud-based video surveillance company Cloudview has appointed former Vodafone CTO Chris Burke as non-executive director. The firm says that he will provide strategic advice and a fresh perspective to the board, as well as technology and business contacts.

Chris Burke said: “The rapid growth of cloud technology and the Internet of Things make this the optimum time to join the Cloudview team. The company is still young, but James and his colleagues have a strong vision and a great product. No other firm right now is tackling secure cloud-based video and this clearly puts Cloudview in a great position to provide innovative services not only to the housing and care sectors but also to apply cloud-based video technology more widely in the workplace.”

Chris has spent more than 30 years in the telecommunications, IT and technology industries in Europe and North America. He spent the first 15 years of his career with Bell Northern Research and Nortel before becoming Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Energis, where he was part of the executive team that led the company through its IPO and into the FTSE 40. He then spent three years as CTO of Vodafone, where he was responsible for Vodafone UK’s technology and product architecture, design, procurement, development, support and operations.

Cloudview chairman Richard Jewson said: “Chris brings a combination of technical and business experience at the highest level which will be invaluable in helping us plan Cloudview’s evolution and anticipating how we can best serve our market.”

Since leaving Vodafone in 2004, Chris has spent most of his time developing his own investment fund and advisory business, achieving substantial successes across a number of ventures. He also sits on the boards of several public companies.
