Inspiration in HR Award

by Mark Rowe

Axis Group, the UK security, cleaning, front-of-house and support services contractor, won the Inspiration in HR Award at the 2019 Security and Fire Excellence Awards.

The award is in recognition of Axis Group’s People Strategy, launched in 2015, about maintaining a happy and fulfilled workforce. That’s monitored through employee surveys and questionnaires, social media engagement, Institute of Customer Service reporting and critically, the Axis Academy – providing consistent and bespoke training in support of employees and clients. The company also offers counselling, health and financial wellbeing initiatives.

Naomi Austen, HR and Learning Director at Axis Group, is pictured with the award. She says: “We have spent considerable time and resource building new offerings, implementing new ideas and benefits, designing new CSR programmes and developing a training Academy, with the overall aim to improve employee engagement,” she says. “This has proven to be hugely worthwhile as we have seen our employee engagement scores increase annually. The HR and Learning teams at Axis work tirelessly to make a difference, and I am extremely proud of their achievements.”

The award follows Axis Group’s ServiceMark Accreditation from The Institute of Customer Service, as well as its nomination in the Institute of Customer Service’s UK ‘Customer Satisfaction Awards’ for the Employee Engagement Strategy category.

She adds: “We have a duty of care to our people and our clients. If we treat our people well then clients will see this. Clients are constantly looking for a company that they believe is always going to push forward and challenge the norm. This, I believe, is us – and can only be achieved by dedication from a committed team. We are a service business after all, and people are our greatest asset.”

Axis was also a finalist in four other categories, including Security Guarding Company of the Year and Security Training Initiative of the Year.
