SSAIB code

by msecadm4921

The UK certification body SSAIB has unveiled an initiative to help properly protect a range of potentially vulnerable sites. The inspectorate’s new Code of Practice for temporary alarm systems seeks to assist in safeguarding construction areas, vacant premises and other buildings at risk from vandalism, arson, squatters, criminal damage and other harmful attacks.

The code provides guidance for those specifying, designing, installing, commissioning and repairing temporary alarms systems, including those intended to protect void property. The 22-page code’s refers to relevant standards covering alarms systems operation and environmental test methods, detection devices, remote monitoring and response services.

SSAIB Chief Executive Geoff Tate, pictured, says: “A wide variety of companies are providing an increasing number of temporary alarm systems to minimise the risks posed to these types of premises. These risks can cause significant harm in terms of time, expense, disruption and impact on future insurance premiums. Our new Code of Practice meets a need for auditable recommendations on all the issues involved in ensuring this protection is efficient, effective and false alarm-free.”

The code will be available for free download in a PDF format from SSAIB.org and if in receiving a copy – send an email to [email protected]

The SSAIB certificates security service providers in the UK and provides access to technical staff who can help service providers explain standards and technical requirements. Meanwhile for purchasers, specifiers and end-users the SSAIB’s remit as a certification body is to ensure their interests are protected and they have access to a pool of service providers they can rely on.  Founded in 1994 the inspectorate is based at new offices in Tyne and Wear, certificating electronic security systems, guarding security services, fire protection, alarm and telecare services companies in the UK and Republic of Ireland. SSAIB offers management systems certification schemes, including ISO 9001 quality management systems certification and ISO 14001 environmental management systems certification. Over 1400 companies are now on the SSAIB’s register.
