Business awards

by Mark Rowe

Octavian Security, the Nottingham-based security firm, is in the running for three awards at this year’s MSDUK (Minority Supplier Diversity UK) Awards. Organised by a UK non-profit membership body driving inclusive procurement, the event recognises Ethnic Minority Businesses (EMBs) and corporate members.

Winners are due to be announced at an awards dinner at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, London on Thursday, October 16. Octavian was shortlisted for the Innovation Award and Responsible Business Practice Award, and an individual accolade went to CEO and founder, Sukhi Ghuman in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

Sukhi Ghuman said: “MSDUK helps businesses access a global supply chain whilst also acting as a platform for minority businesses to connect with blue chip corporations. MSDUK is exceptional in its commitment to encouraging supplier diversity and we are proud to be associated with its awards once again. It is a real honour to be shortlisted for the 2014 Awards and the fact that we are in the running for three different categories demonstrates the diverse capabilities of Octavian Security.”

Mayank Shah, CEO of MSDUK, said: “Every two years, MSDUK pitches market leaders against one another to identify, engage with and celebrate the latest in procurement innovation. Since its formation eight years ago, MSDUK has become the benchmark for businesses looking to gain access to supply chain opportunities with EMBs. This year’s awards are set to be bigger and better than ever before and I wish all our finalists the best of luck.”

Master of Ceremonies and former Olympic sprinter and hurdler, Colin Jackson CBE, will host the evening, with other speakers including Barclays CPO Diane Eshleman, Avion Systems CEO Kanchana Raman and an introductory address from MSDUK Board of Directors Chairperson, Justin Lambert.

Sukhi Ghuman will also be attending the annual NMSDC (The National Minority Supplier Development Council) Conference on November 2 to 5, as part of the MSDUK’s commitment to better connect UK EMBs. The four day event – this year hosted in Orlando, Florida, will see more than 7,000 delegates, including 500 global firms and thousands of Minority Business Entrepreneurs from around the world, take part in sessions, discussions, workshops and network opportunities aimed at enhancing the global corporate supply chain.
