Rogue apps

by msecadm4921

Malicious apps and spam texts are on the increase, according to a recent BBC report, and consumers are being urged to be vigilant. While spam texts are often merely a nuisance, rogue apps can trigger premium rate texts which are charged to the user’s account. The Security Company outlines these threats in a new report on its web site: http://www.thesecurityco.com.

“There are numerous ways in which the fraudster will continue to target us, but with greater vigilance we can decrease our vulnerability,” says Hannah Tufts of The Security Company.  “Rogue apps are particularly nasty.  If you encounter a free version of a top paid app, don’t be hasty; do your homework first to check whether it’s genuine. Remember, if something looks too good to be true, it probably is.”
