Tube Evaluation

by msecadm4921

On the London Underground, based out of Bermondsey on the Jubilee line, the Tube is evaluating the application of digital media operationally.

Images from cameras installed around the station are transmitted and digitally recorded onto AIT tapes using CCTVWare from Loronix, 24-hours at two frames per second, and kept for 31 days before tapes are automatically re-written. All of the information can be accessed, and retrieved, from a standard PC. MPEG-4 compression technology makes possible recording of images up to 12.5 frames per second for near real-time recording of live events. part of the project sees the live streaming of video from the system to an IPAC hand-held device. This enables guards around the station to view events, and make decisions based on first-hand information. Chris Garden, Loronix’ Project Manager, says: ‘Not only does this have advantages regarding security, but also much wider implications across a spectrum of health and safety issues.’
