Accolade for shopping centre manager

by Mark Rowe

A dual service manager has been recognised for his work at a shopping centre in Cambridge. Ian King, who was brought in as Security and Cleaning Contract Manager for the contractor The Westgrove Group at The Lion Yard Shopping Centre in Cambridge, has won an industry award. Ian won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the regional British Security Industry Association (BSIA) awards and was praised for introducing health and safety and customer service initiatives to the shopping centre.

Despite having to take time off to recover from a heart attack and look after his wife, the former military man stayed committed to his job. Pictured left to right are Ian King, receiving his award from Claire McKinley Smith, Westgrove MD.

The BSIA holds awards both regionally and nationally to celebrate some of the outstanding personnel within the security industry at BSIA member companies who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their everyday work.

The regional award winners, which now go forward to national judging, serve to recognise the achievements and commitments of those working in the UK’s private security industry. The winners will be presented at the BSIA’s annual lunch in central London on July 11.

Westgrove Group Managing Director Claire McKinley Smith said: “This is our fifth consecutive year of BSIA awards and as always we are very proud of our security officers for their dedication, loyalty, teamwork, customer service, use of technology and their bravery.”

James Kelly, CEO of the BSIA said: “It is important that we recognise the true value of security personnel. They are often the first responders in times of emergency and play a vital role in keeping the public safe. This year’s Security Personnel Awards regional winners are testament to the truly high calibre of personnel we have working within our industry. We received a high number of fantastic nominations this year, making the judging process a tough one.”
