British Red Cross FM

by Mark Rowe

An £8m total FM contract to provide national facilities management (FM) to British Red Cross, has gone to Kier. The contract marks the first time the charity has appointed one provider to deliver FM across its 620 shops (pictured: Uttoxeter, Staffordshire), offices, storage facilities and other buildings, which cover the UK from Orkney to the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland. The three-year contract, which goes live in February 2018, includes:

– Mechanical, electrical and fabric maintenance
– Reactive work
– Compliance testing, fire alarms and security system maintenance
– Cleaning
– Waste services including clinical waste; and
– Fire and water risk assessments.

Kier, a building and civil engineering, and support services contractor, says it will use computer aided facilities management and work with British Red Cross to streamline processes and introduce greater transparency in reporting, which will identify opportunities for improvements and savings. As part of this contract, Kier is bringing in ‘social impact measures’, such as ethical procurement and volunteering initiatives.

Steve Davies, managing director of Kier Workplace Services says: “We are very much looking forward to helping the British Red Cross shape and deliver a reliable, resilient FM solution that supports its vision to make a difference to the lives of people facing crisis across the globe. By streamlining process and introducing the latest technology to support our teams, we are confident that we can help the British Red Cross run and maintain its estate more efficiently, enabling its teams to focus on its important work. Kier believes strongly in playing a vital role in the communities where we work and we will be doing all we can to encourage our teams and supply chain partners to get fully involved in the work of the British Red Cross both professionally and on a voluntary basis.”

And Carol O’Neill, Director of Shared Service Centre, British Red Cross, says: “I am delighted to be commencing this new partnership with Kier Workplace Services. The British Red Cross has a diverse UK wide property portfolio. Moving to a single source national supplier under Kier reduces the complexity of our facilities management delivery models, improves transparency of service delivery, supports compliance and helps us drive down our costs.”
