Casino CCTV goes IP

by Mark Rowe

Sycuan Casino, one of the largest in California, has chosen to upgrade their ageing CCTV system to IP.

As the existing CCTV system could no longer meet the requirements of a modern, large casino, Sycuan Casino embarked on a new system to manage a total of 1,200 cameras. It meant only a select number of manufacturers were able to meet the demands of a system of this magnitude and technical stipulations.

Sycuan’s formal evaluation process involved product testing and feature analysis against several video security offerings. Bill Miller of Reliable Security, IndigoVision’s US installer for the Sycuan project, said: “Being able to manage thousands of cameras and capture high quality video is meaningless unless you can find the evidence you need, when you need it. Casinos love the fact that you can find the right evidence within seconds through IndigoVision’s Control Center software.”

Sycuan opted to deploy a mix of IndigoVision’s Enhanced HD IP cameras and Encoder hardware, meaning analogue cameras could be retained, and minimising project downtime. IndigoVision’s compression technology in both cameras and encoders also gives recorded evidence quality while reducing storage requirements, the UK makers say. IndigoVision’s new NVR-AS 4000 Enterprise Recording hardware was also uszed, reducing storage footprint further and freeing up rack space for other applications.

IndigoVision adds that the firm’s video security products have been deployed in 55 casinos worldwide, including the M Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Bavarian State Government Casinos and the Enjoy Group of Casinos across Latin America.
