Event checkpoints

by Mark Rowe

An event security checkpoint from Access Risk Control (ARC) is based on airport-style units, described as a mobile security checkpoint and a method of security screening audiences at all types of events.

ARC was in use at the 2013 Zoo Project Festival over three days at Donnington Park Raceway, at Elstree Studios for BBC Children In Need, pictured, where the band One Direction starred; and the product continues to be used at the International Quarter venue at Stratford City.

ARC CEO Robbie Wilson said that he has been having discussions with the 2014 World Cup event organisers in Rio for them to use the unit to offer greater security to football fans. Wilson said: “They have been very impressed with our unit’s potential and we are very optimistic that we will be helping to make crowds of excited football fans safer, by filtering them as they enter the stadia at various locations. There are 11 host cities in Brazil for the finals.

“My partners in Brazil are hoping to have this decision within the coming weeks, but I have already had confirmation that some of our well-proven methods of safe crowd control, using barrier systems, are being adopted in various locations.”

Robbie first worked in Brazil in 2006 with Harvey Goldsmith and Nokia, where he managed a concert for over one million people on Ipanema beach on New Year’s Eve, headlined by the band the Black Eyed Peas. Since then he has kept a presence in Rio and Sao Paulo. ARC has won orders to deliver a number of units to the Greek Port Authorities to ensure that illegal items do not enter the country.

“The contracts were signed a few weeks ago,” says Wilson. “We will be delivering them later this year.”
