Spurs fence

by Mark Rowe

The new Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre has fencing to combat a common problem with net fittings, say the fence product manufacturer. A designer of grass sports surfaces, Hewitt Sportsturf, has worked alongside fencing manufacturer, CLD Fencing, to design a bespoke solution which meets Tottenham’s need for maintenance-friendly fencing with a clean design around the training pitches, besides a ball-stopping system.

Hewitts has tailor-made sports rail solutions for Spurs’ training ground using CLD Fencing’s Dulok Rebound fencing around the artificial grass pitches, ball-stop netting systems and associated fencing and gates.

John Hewitt, managing director of Hewitts Sportsturf, says: “We used CLD Fencing’s pedestrian hand rail at 1.1metres high and within that, incorporated a ball stop net 40 metres behind each goal post at both ends to prevent the balls from going on to other pitches. A lot of sites have problems fitting nets to ground level as they are difficult to keep under control and the lower parts of the net aren’t strong enough to take the power of the ball from the back of the goals. CLD Fencing supplied us with a solution that completely surrounds the pitch with a 1.1metre rebound panel at the base, integrated into a steel pole fence with clean detail.”

And CLD Fencing adds that the exclusive design was especially made for Hewitts to fit the specific pitch requirements at Spurs training gound and is more robust than normal.

Hewitt adds: “We have a long-standing relationship with CLD Fencing and appreciate the work they do for our bespoke designs. We expect that the same detail on the fences will be used for the foreseeable future on other projects.”
