Consequences of data compromise

by Mark Rowe

A recent warning from the Information Commissioner’s Office that a lack of guidance for employees who use their own smartphones at work has prompted The Security Company to issue a report at http://www.thesecurityco.com/news/expert-comment/byod-a-time-bomb-waiting-to-happen/

Bring Your Own Device schemes (BYOD) are growing in popularity as employees demand access to the latest smartphones, tablets and connected devices, but the obvious advantages for both employee and organisation are balanced by the potential risk of data loss and security breaches.

Bernadette Palmer of The Security Company says: “The consequences of data compromise can be substantial from a financial and, perhaps more significantly, a reputational perspective. As more organisations begin to adopt BYOD it will be those that embed this good practice in the company culture who will go a long way to protecting the information they have responsibility for.”
