Freedom of the City

by Mark Rowe

Anthony King, managing director and Stephen Evans, commercial director of Kings Security Systems – www.kingsltd.co.uk – pictured centre, have been honoured with the Freedom of the City of London. A recent ceremony at the Guildhall in London marked their positions as Freemen of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.

Anthony King, managing director said: “To have such an honour bestowed on us is very humbling. We feel privileged to be amongst such an incredible peer group and proud to be recognised for our services to UK business, and particularly to the security sector.”

Stephen Evans, commercial director added: “For me personally, I feel extremely proud of this achievement. To be named amongst such a group of incredible members of society, from all walks of life, is an absolute honour. It really doesn’t get much better than this!”

The Freedom of the City, one of the oldest traditional ceremonies in Britain, dates to 1237 when it used to carry privileges such as the right to drive sheep over London Bridge. Today it is largely symbolic but remains a slice of London history. It is still closely associated with membership of the City Livery Companies. Such members of the City of London include representatives in business, dignitaries and celebrities. They include Colin Firth, JK Rowling, Jimmy Choo and Judi Dench; and in history names like Florence Nightingale, Lord Nelson and Winston Churchill.
