Institute annual conference

by Mark Rowe

Mike Hurst, Security Institute board director, writes ahead of the institute’s annual conference on June 19, at the Marriott Regents Park Hotel in London.

We like to think that our annual conference is one of the keystone events of the UK security calendar and with speakers from both Houses of Parliament, industry, and academia we know this year’s event will build on previous successes. We are also pleased that Professional Security is our media partner for the event. We have two distinguished and very different key note speakers, Baroness Neville-Jones, former chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee and Minister of State for Security and Counter Terrorism will deliver the opening Key Note and Jon Clements the former ITN and Daily Mirror crime correspondent will deliver the closing address. Jon is now Head of Communications for criminal justice charity, Crest Advisory. With a modular format covering leadership and management, cyber-security and emerging threats, speakers include: MP Patrick Mercer; Lord Errol, Chairman of the Digital Policy Alliance (EURIM); Alexandra Moore of the National Cyber Security Programme; Asst Prof Allison Wylde; and chief security officers from two FTSE 100 companies, Bob Randall and Nigel Carpenter. Securing the food chain, environmental threats to national security, IT vulnerabilities and how security is viewed by society are among the topics. In line with the Institute’s core values, the focus of the conference is about education, informing the security professional and helping to increase their knowledge and skills. Good networking opportunities and a good dinner afterwards are just icing on the cake! Visit www.security-institute.org.
