by msecadm4921

A new handbook on crime prevention, to be reviewed in the next, November print issue of the magazine.

The Handbook of Crime Prevention and Community Safety is edited by Prof Nick Tilley of Nottingham Trent University. The problem oriented policing (POP) award named after him was featured in the October issue of the magazine.

The 700-plus-page book is priced £29.50 direct from the publisher. It provides an overview, the publishers report, of the main theories and perspectives informing crime prevention policy and practice, and includes chapters covering efforts to address a number of the main types of crime problem.

Plaudits

Among the plaudits are from Peter Neyroud, Chief Constable of Thames Valley and Vice President of the Association of Chief Police Officers: "Preventing crime and increasing community safety has never been higher on the political or professional radar. This handbook is very timely and very comprehensive just what police officers, policy makers, students, community safety partnerships and communities need to guide good decisions and give clear insights in a complex field."

Authors

Among the chapter authors are Prof Martin Gill of consultancy Perpetuity and Leicester University; Gloria Laycock of the Jill Dando Institute, University College London; and Paul Ekblom, formerly of the Home Office, on designing products against crime.
