Euro Research

by msecadm4921

The results of a two month study into the European security sector have been released. It aims to improve the performance of the sector through a more effective supply chain.

The study was commissioned by SIGNATURE: The European Security Innovation Network, and delivered by InnovaSec Ltd, Innovation Bridge Consulting, and Knowledge Matrix Ltd.

The research has developed a practical classification (taxonomy) of market-based security offerings that extends to over 700 items. This taxonomy will be it’s claimed easy to use for small and large companies, research institutes and universities, end users and installers alike. The report is accompanied by an interactive set of data which quantifies size, growth, location, segmentation and the fragmentation of the market by country and for the EU as a whole.

The research has also created a “landscape map” with an overview of EU stakeholders and initiatives of relevance to the security sector. It has analysed security R&D activity in Europe, with the aim of identifying key players, and opportunities to participate in collaborative programmes. A total of 362 security projects were studied in total. It also looks towards the future, with an overview of planned R&D programmes and initiatives of relevance to the security sector.

Alma Erenstein, SIGNATURE Project Manager, says: “The SIGNATURE partners are looking forward to using this research to underpin their activities. For example, they have used the research to decide on the topic areas of their Security Transnational Interest Groups (STIGs). We are also planning to launch an online directory for the security sector in the near future, which will facilitate the search for supply chain partners, and will be free of charge to access.”

Dr Richard Chisnall of InnovaSec Ltd, pictured, adds: “For the participating Member States, this project breaks new ground in that it sets a framework for linking industry, markets and EU R&D for the first time within a common framework. By facilitating cross-border linkages, I would hope that this is a step to strengthening the European security supplier base.”

For more information – visit the SIGNATURE project website –
