Marshalls Plc, the UK hard landscaping specialist, has launched a national public safety campaign to address the need for integrating counter-terrorism security into the design of public landscapes.
Chris Harrop, Group Marketing Director at Marshalls says: โWe understand that designers of public realm need the security industry to innovate – providing products that respond to the challenges presented by the threats of terrorism without compromising design integrity. At Marshalls, we have striven to develop a product range that does exactly that โ with outer beauty and inner strength – so that the highest levels of protection can be seamlessly integrated into our public spaces.
โWe believe that it is incumbent upon all of us operating in the public realm, to consider and address the threats presented by terrorism in an imaginative, sustainable and proportionate way, and we hope our campaign fosters this sentiment.โ
As a focal point in the campaign, Marshalls will be hosting a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects)-accredited CPD seminar for the creators and designers of public spaces at City Hall, home of the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London, on Thursday 9 June. Senior spokespeople from the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, Atkins, Capita Symonds and MFD Group will be presenting and attendance is free. Seminar content will examine the latest guidelines announced by the Government and new industry thinking in how best to design-in security while preserving design integrity. Its core focus will be on hostile vehicle mitigation and the BSI PAS 68 impact testing standard for vehicle barriers, which has become the UKโs standard and the security industryโs benchmark for HVM (Hostile Vehicle Mitigation) solutions.
Marshalls is also supporting the upcoming Counter Terror Expo, which runs from 19-20 April at Olympia in London, as headline sponsor. The event is widely considered to be the leading annual gathering of government, armed forces, security services, law enforcers, and academia. Marshalls will be exhibiting to showcase its range of counter-terrorism product designs. This includes design-led PAS 68 tested street furniture such as seating, planters, cycle stands and litter bins with hidden security features that allow for sensitive integration with streetscapes.
