The Metropolitan Police Sports Club at Bushey had its share of thefts from motor vehicle and even suffered the indignity of the switch-over car for a nearby armed robbery being dumped in its car park!
Enough was enough. Duty Manager Andy Haigh was tasked was setting up a CCTV system for the Hertfordshire social club. The contract was given to Property Webwatch Ltd of Swindon. There is now a split screen computer based monitor in the club office, with a small random view monitor in the bar, visible to patrons and staff alike. Cameras cover the car park, the entrance way and the foyer. Andy says: “Combined with the efforts of Hertfordshire Police CPSOs, thefts from cars have dropped to nil. Staff and customers alike feel far safer and far happier to leave their cars here. I have watched CCTV grow during 30-plus years in the police and from the grainy black and white image things have come a long way. I don’t suggest it is star viewing, but we even have a facility to log in from home and see what is going on!” The CCTV allowed monitoring the crowds at a recent fireworks night and a weather eye open for unauthorised access to the grounds and playing fields.
