A Japanese documentary featuring SmartWater Technology attracted more than 10 million viewers across Japan, the security product marking firm reports.
The recently broadcast episode of Hodou Tokushu (‘Weekly News Feature’) featured a 20 minute segment on the product, and how it could be deployed by Japanese police to tackle crime. In particular the programme addressed the growing issue of motorcycle crime in Japan and how the forensic marking product could be used to curb the increasing number of bikes stolen and exported to mainland China.
Filming took place at SmartWater’s head offices in June 2005, with the Japanese TV crew also visiting several police forces to see how the product is being used across the UK to tackle crimes including burglary, robbery, race crime, and car theft.
What they say
SmartWater Chief Executive, Phil Cleary, said: "The programme addressed several very serious crime issues, and we’re delighted to have been involved in the project. So far we have been thrilled by the positive reactions to SmartWater since the programme was broadcast. The success of the SmartWater Strategy in the UK – which has produced reductions in burglary by as much as 84pc – can be attributed to its infrastructure which is supported by nationwide police forces and other agencies. Given sufficient interest and support in Japan, SmartWater would have the potential to produce similar levels of crime reduction."
