About the Peter Greenwood Award

The longest established individual award in the security profession it has been in existence since Peter’s untimely death in January 1995. In his position as Chairman of the Security Industry Lead Body (SILB) Implementation Group, Peter worked to enhance the cohesion and professionalism of the security industry as it was then. Besides the introduction of the then new National Vocational Qualifications he also had a clear vision of the industry working together, providing rewards for its members and service on behalf of its clients. After Peter passed away Una Riley took over as chairman of the implementation group and felt it appropriate to create an annual award to be offered to an individual who demonstrated the same kind of enthusiasm and selfless concern for the industry which Peter himself unerringly demonstrated. It was people like Peter that helped shape the industry to become the profession that it is today. Over the years the organisations presenting the honour have changed from and in more recent years to the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) has become its true home. The format is that the Master of the day co-presents the award with Past Master – Una Riley who is the guardian of the Peter Greenwood Award. Peter was the Head of the Electrical Contractors’ Association Security Group, was involved with its Fire Group and was a founder member of the SILB.

About the FSA

Launched by the Electrical Contractors’ Association in January 2007, the FSA operates as a division within the association’s framework for the fire and security systems sector.
