Sports Body

There are moves to develop a professional association for the sports security sector, report organisers of the recent second International Sports Security Summit.

The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster event attracted more than 200 delegates from 30 countries, according to organisers Rushmans.
 
Work to develop the new body is under way and summit delegates representing sports bodies, police forces, private security firms, security equipment suppliers and others, will be among the first invited to apply for membership, say Rushmans.
 
Among speakers over the two days was were Peter Ryan who is working on projects including the 15th Asian Games which in Doha, Qatar in December.
 
Metropolitan Police and London 2012 security men Andrew Amery, Stephen Swain and Simon Gately gave an overview of London’s expertise in handling major sports events. From Italy Giovanni Pulice spoke of procedures applied to developing the security programme for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

The next, third International Sports Security Summit is scheduled at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on January 18 and 19, 2007.
