Call on occupational standards

by Mark Rowe

The security sector’s skills body, Skills for Security (SfS), is inviting organisations in the sector to influence the next set of occupational standards. SfS reports that it has been working with a group of employers within the sector to review the National Occupational Standards for Electronic Security Systems.

The draft standards are now open to wider consultation and will remain open throughout April 2018. Chief executive of Skills for Security, Peter Sherry, says that feedback from the sector is vital in shaping standards. He says: “It’s really important that the National Occupational Standards reflect the genuine needs of the sector. We really need feedback from as many employers and organisations as possible to best inform this process.”

The suggested changes to the standard are highlighted in a prepared draft, which can be downloaded, with a feedback questionnaire, from Skills for Security’s website. The changes will be considered for approval during 2018.

Sherry, pictured, adds: “We’ve highlighted the changes to make it easy for people to comment, but we really do encourage others to suggest any changes that they feel could be either necessary or beneficial.”

Completed questionnaires and NOS drafts with comments should be e-mailed to [email protected].

The draft National Occupational Standards and questionnaire can be downloaded from the SfS website.
