Design research

Researchers at a university are setting out to discover how best to deter crime when designing new buildings.

Northumbria University postgraduate student Megan McCabe is supporting the work of PhD student Victoria Gibson’s research into crime prevention through environmental design – a crime prevention approach involving fields of Environmental Criminology, Psychology, Architecture, Urban Planning and Design and Behaviour Analsyis.

Megan said: “I’m keen to find out how the concept of designing the environment to deter crime and disorder is actually used by professionals.” Any planners, designers or architects interested in taking part or finding out more about the research are asked to contact Megan at –
