The event security and stewarding contractor Showsec’s Training and Development Centre reports six new associates qualifying from the Management Development Programme (MDP). The in-house training was introduced by the security firm in 2008 and is geared towards operational development through a range of projects under the management of mentors. According to the company it offers crowd management and security knowledge and skills through a blended learning approach, combining operational experiences, mentoring, online modules and classroom sessions.

The company says that the MDP provides an opportunity for ambitious personnel within Showsec to gain knowledge from their peers.

This year associates, each assigned to a specific client or geographical area, were also directly involved with:

• Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations

• Multiple torch relay events across the UK

• Download Festival

• Camp Bestival

• Olympic venue park and rides

• Bruce Springsteen tour

• Madonna world tour (pictured)

• Hyde Park summer concert series

• BT London Live – Hyde Park and Victoria Park.

Over 40 internal and external candidates have gone through the MDP, ultimately qualifying with a Foundation Degree in the second phase. This year’s six new associates are Andrew Agnew, Ian Clatworthy, Jennifer Edwards, Dean Newman, Glen Stevenson and Stefan Vipond.

Jennifer Edwards, Manchester, says: “The MDP for me was an exciting opportunity to develop a career. Training sessions and on the job development brought with them new challenges and experiences, such as being involved in The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Torch, which are a once in a life time opportunities.”
