Scots modern apprenticeship review

by Mark Rowe

Skills for Security (SfS) report that they have been working with industry employers to review the level three Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in electronic security systems for Scotland.

Work led by the skills body has been to review and update the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and SVQ during the last 12 months. The outcome of the NOS review has led to updates to the SVQ (Scottish vocational qualification, the Scots equivalent of the NVQ).

An industry group meeting with Scottish based representatives in June reviewed the existing framework and suitability of components. Consultation has led to the overall title of the MA being reviewed to read Electronic Security Systems in line with SVQ, and references to level two being removed.

SfS are now looking for wider consultation with organisations yet to be involved to review the draft framework for content and suitability. Readers are asked to pay particular attention to:

Qualification components – enhancements to the SVQ qualification to be considered / recommended
Consultation (pg 11) – further input welcomed to the background of review and sources of information
Career progression (pg 12) – including whether references to HE are merited and links to association membership
