Tavcom award

by Mark Rowe

Mike Tennent, Managing Director of Hampshire-based trainers Tavcom recently took part in an award ceremony at Highbury College, Portsmouth to mark the achievements of students with learning difficulties.

Paper Dreams, part of Highbury Collegeโ€™s Foundation Studies department, provides training for adults with learning disabilities to improve their chances of finding work. The Quality of Service award presented by Mike recognised the service that Paper Dreams had provided to Tavcom over the last five years.

Students who attend the Paper Dreams training have assisted Tavcom by printing, compiling and binding course material for the hundreds of security industry training courses run every year at the companyโ€™s Bishops Waltham centre. Mike said: โ€œRather like the security professionals who improve their skills when they use the โ€˜hands-onโ€™ facilities in our workshops, the Paper Dreams students are able to obtain work experience by providing a service to companies such as Tavcom. It is a commercial arrangement but we are nevertheless very pleased to be able to contribute to the opportunities for the students to gain real-life practical skills and they have told us that they are thrilled that Tavcom students across the world are recipients of their good work.โ€

Highbury is a general further education college with over 45 years teaching and learning experience which takes pride in its commitment to equality and diversity, supporting students of all abilities from all backgrounds. Its 11/12 student success rates make it the top performing college in Hampshire and in 2011 the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), judged Highbury to be a Grade 1 outstanding college.
